It is Maria’s and my pleasure to write this week’s Pastor’s Pen to call attention to a very special segment of our church family, the Jubilee Fellowship.

In our society, this age group is growing faster than the birth rate! This large and diverse group has entered a different phase of life – people who have adult children and grandchildren, people who are retired or pursuing second careers, and people who have lost spouses. All share in the common need for salvation in Christ, and the consequent need to be valued and to become productive servants of Christ.

FIRST FRUITS

Dear Tabernacle Family,

Today we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, our Savior, and the “firstfruits” of those who are yet to be raised from the dead. This word, “firstfruits,” is used by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15, the Resurrection Chapter. “But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming” (1 Cor. 15:20-23).

APPRECIATE THE YOUNGER GENERATION

Dear Tabernacle Family,

The Apostle Paul spoke to Timothy, his young son in the faith, encouraging him to be an example to other believers, “in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Tim. 4:12b). What stands out about this verse is Timothy’s age. He was not an aged apostle like Paul, his mentor, but instead, he was one to whom Paul would write, “Let no one despise your youth!” (1 Tim. 4:12a).
