Dear Tabernacle Family,

It is Maria’s and my pleasure to write this week’s Pastor’s Pen to call attention to a very special segment of our church family, the Jubilee Fellowship.

In our society, this age group is growing faster than the birth rate! This large and diverse group has entered a different phase of life – people who have adult children and grandchildren, people who are retired or pursuing second careers, and people who have lost spouses. All share in the common need for salvation in Christ, and the consequent need to be valued and to become productive servants of Christ.

The Fellowship, in its 38th year of ministry, was given the name “Jubilee,” because it represents a year of emancipation and restoration provided by ancient Hebrew law. It also refers to a season of celebration.

The Jubilee Fellowship exists to provide Christ-centered activity addressing the spiritual, educational and social needs of our church members and friends. During the year, we sponsor monthly luncheons, which include not only a fine lunch, but we try to have inspirational, entertaining, and informational speakers, along with a musical guest(s). Jubilee Fellowship sponsors an all-church Thanksgiving Dinner, usually attracting 150-175 individuals.

While unable to schedule any significant trips this last year due to illness of members of the leadership group, plans are underway for a one-day trip during the warmer weather, and a possible return trip to Sight and Sound in Lancaster County Pennsylvania in the Fall.

We believe that the real challenge is to motivate seniors to serve seniors at The Tabernacle, and also to the community around us. A number of seniors at The Tabernacle take an active role assisting in the children’s ministry, visiting shut-ins, serving in food service, as well as other areas.

The Bible doesn’t promote a mandatory “retirement age,” but has promised us strength for our days. We have had a challenge attached to our name and logo, “Dare to Dream.” Seek ways in which you can bless others, and be a witness of His salvation. Most often those opportunities are right before our eyes.

“Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come” (Psalm 71:17,18).

Maria and I invite you to come and be part of the lunches and the activities. Our next scheduled luncheon is Wednesday, May 17th.

In His Service,

Pastor Al & Maria Baun
